If you are looking for Sports Therapy with a qualified professional in Nottingham, you are in the right place.

I am a qualified Sports Therapist with a Sports Medicine MSc and a Sport and Exercise Science BSc. I am a member of the Sport Therapy Association and the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

As a Sports Therapist I am specialised in musculoskeletal disorders and I use manual therapy and rehabilitation to address pain and injuries. I employ a variety of physical techniques and therapies together with my knowledge and expertise to treat athletic injuries, offer injury prevention advice, and aid in rehabilitation.

If you want to know more about my Sports Therapy service, have a look at the common questions I receive below.

Who can benefit from Sports Therapy?

Despite the name “Sports Therapist” you don’t need to be an athlete to benefit from Sports Therapy as it can help anyone who suffers from soft tissue and joint injury. Whether you are an athlete dealing with a sports injury, an office employee with back pain, or you struggle with conditions such as sciatica or knee pain, Sports Therapy can help you.

What’s the difference between Sports Therapy and Physiotherapy?

This is something I get asked quite often. The treatment plans of the two professions can overlap and share numerous similarities, however, there are some key differences.

Sports Therapy focuses more on whether the patient has returned to or can maintain the required physical level for whatever activity, both sport and daily, they would like to partake in. Physiotherapy instead attempts to rehabilitate patients to enable them to feel comfortable and cope in their day-to-day life. Because physiotherapists have a more medical background, they can treat ailments, diseases, neurological conditions, and respiratory problems. They are therefore perfect for treating a variety of patients, including complicated ones who have several illnesses.

Even if I worked in hospital settings and managed patients with different conditions (e.g. neurological, respiratory) as a Sports Therapist specialised in musculoskeletal disorders I am aware of the boundaries between professions. Therefore, I will always refer my clients to other professionals if I notice symptoms that are beyond my field of expertise. This is also the reason why I decided to collaborate with a physiotherapy clinic in West Bridgford (Nottingham) that can provide physiotherapy services.

How does the Sports Therapy service work?

Before the initial appointment I will ask you to fill a health form about your health condition and to give consent to treatment.

During the appointment I will ask you a few questions to clarify your health and understand your lifestyle. I will also ask you more details about the injury/condition you want me to focus on. After reviewing your medical history I will perform a physical assessment and few tests to understand the origin of your injury and how to solve it. If necessary, I will perform manual treatment as well.

After this first appointment, I will work on the rehabilitation plan and we will go through it together during the follow-up appointment. In this session I will show you how to perform the exercises correctly and will answer all your questions about the rehabilitation plan. If you feel confident in doing the exercises by yourself, I will meet you again in a few weeks time, otherwise you can come to see me regularly. I offer discounted packages for clients who choose this option.

Choosing to do the rehabilitation plan on your own does not mean that you will be alone. To ensure all exercises are properly performed when working out by yourself, I offer a mobile app that is completely free for my clients. Using this app you will have your rehabilitation plan with the videos and the description of each exercise, and the possibility to record yourself during the exercise execution, so that I can check your technique even if you are not with me at that moment. Also, every Friday I will get in touch to have feedback about your progress so that you can keep me updated about your progress or let me know if there is any issue that requires an amendment of the rehabilitation plan. I am available during my working hours to answer your questions and support you via WhatsApp.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

I had plenty of massages before, but nobody has ever assessed my posture before a massage, and that was a very welcome addition to a really relaxing and effective session. I found Valentina professional, trustworthy and capable; at the end of the treatment I was so relaxed that I was ready for a nap, and the fact that Valentina came to my place meant that I could actually have a lie-down and feel even more refreshed afterwards! Highly recommended.
